SONOTEC Introduces New App for Ultrasound-Assisted Bearing Lubrication

SONOTEC GmbH is launching GreaseExpert, a powerful hard- and software solution designed to optimize lubrication monitoring for industrial machinery. Integrated with the SONAPHONE® broadband ultrasonic testing device, GreaseExpert enables precise, condition-based lubrication, helping engineers and maintenance professionals extend bearing life, reduce friction, and minimize costly equipment failures.
Precision Lubrication for Maximum Efficiency
Insufficient lubrication is one of the leading causes of bearing damage, often resulting in excessive wear, unplanned downtime, and expensive repairs. GreaseExpert leverages advanced ultrasonic technology to detect increased bearing friction through acoustic emissions, allowing for real-time monitoring and precise lubrication adjustments.
“Efficient lubrication is critical for keeping industrial equipment running smoothly,” said Kevin Lang, sales director at SONOTEC. “Traditional lubrication schedules can lead to over- or under-lubrication, both of which negatively impact machine health. With GreaseExpert, maintenance teams can implement a condition-based lubrication strategy that optimizes performance, saves time, and significantly reduces costs.”
Seamless Integration and Smart Workflow
GreaseExpert is a part of SONOTEC’s broader ultrasonic testing ecosystem, offering seamless compatibility with various sensors, apps, and the DataSuite PC software for comprehensive route planning and data analysis.
Users can create customized lubrication routes using the AssetExpert module in DataSuite, defining parameters such as grease type, measurement setup, and alarm levels to ensure precise lubrication. The GreaseExpert app provides a guided, intuitive measurement workflow, helping maintenance teams follow route-based instructions directly from the SONAPHONE device. Lubrication is monitored in real time using the BS40 broadband sensor, while the current lubrication status is displayed using a simple live traffic light system in the GreaseExpert app.
Once the lubrication process is complete, the measurement results are automatically synchronized with the DataSuite. The DataReport module can be used to create detailed reports and track trends over time, supporting predictive maintenance strategies and long-term equipment reliability.
